Roadmap to Accessibility: A Content Owner's Planning Guide

Meeting ADA Title II accessibility deadlines shouldn’t be a last-minute scramble.

Use this roadmap to pace your work across the academic year, review the Frequently Asked Questions, and reach out to accessibility staff with questions (see sidebar).

Fall Semester, August-November 2026
Phase 1: Audit and Remove Outdated Content

Tool: Siteimprove → Quality Assurance module → Inventory tool

  1. Identify and remove out-of-date content, forms, documents, and media (e.g., old meeting minutes and agendas, outdated student and personnel forms)
  2. Before removing or renaming anything, check if other sites/pages link to it
    • Inventory → Pages → Referring Pages
  3. Notify other departments if their content links to a page or document of yours that is missing, being removed, or being renamed.

Winter, December-January 2027
Phase 2: Evaluate Remaining Content's Relevancy

Tool: Siteimprove → analytics module → Content → Least Popular Pages

  1. Review visitor traffic on the content that remains after Phase 1
  2. For low-traffic pages, determine why: is it hard to find (findability issue), or is it genuinely unnecessary? Is the same information already available elsewhere? Just link to it, don’t duplicate.
  3. Decide for each page: improve findability and keep it, or identify it as unneeded and remove it.

Spring Semester, January-March 2027
Phase 3: Evaluate & Remediate Accessibility

Tool: Siteimprove → Accessibility module → ⓘ Issues tool

  1. Run the Issues tool on the content that survived Phases 1 and 2
  2. Remediate flagged issues using the fixes covered in Siteimprove training (headings, alt text, links, iframes, all-caps text, and more).
